Visual perception of characteristics of an object, such as of its distance or size, is usually considered to be determined by optical and ocular-motor information. Some recent evidence, however, suggests that the way we intend to act in a particular situation may affect the way we perceive the environment in this situation. Based on this evidence, we aim to study the role of motor planning in the visual perception of objects. Several aspects of motor planning processes including , e.g. energetic factors, movement direction and the reachability of goals, will be scrutinized and their impact on the perception of visual attributes will be examined. The project will focus on hand movements and on the visual perception of the space within reach. This work is supported by the German Research Council (DFG)
